> Virtual Tape Drives Virtual tape is attractive to the users looking to deploy their first disk backup solution. Virtual Tape was engineered and designed by the NovaStor Corporation. Virtual tape is a Plug-In for NovaNet. The main function of the virtual tape is to emulate a tape library from the hard drive or the network attached storage. You can be able to use the virtual tape, by simply installing virtual tape into the system and then select a tape library and the number of tapes and slots you would like to use. Now you can run NovaNet and you will see the virtual tape library listed which is used to attach to the hard drive. In most of the time, virtual tape can be used to find the library in the destination media. The data is created on the hard drive is a tape image. You can provide a more backup rotation method using NovaNet and even allows quick and easy migration of data directly to physical tape media application. The first question that arises in the mind as to which type of operating systems does Virtual Tape work with? The answer is that the NovaStor's virtual tape supports Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 Windows 2000 and Windows XP. There are major benefits of using virtual tape over other disk backup applications. The major benefit is that the virtual tape is able to handle any of the familiar backup tape methods. Whether you are using a simple 5 tape rotation or the Tower of Hanoi, Virtual Tape is able to handle it. Also, the resulting backup file is a tape image. The NovaStor application, enable you to make a copy to a physical tape and read it with NovaNet. The difference between the tape libraries would be considered. In virtual tape the speed for accessing the physical tape library is about 200 to 300MB. Using NovaStor's virtual tape: you can get more than 350MB of data per minute. What type of Library is provided with the virtual tape? Any library can be used to support by NovaNet by Virtual Tape. When you run NovaNet, how the tape drive is identified as NovaStor Virtual Tape Drive. The tape library can be used to identify as NovaStor virtual tape library. How many slots and drives can I define? The default installation of Virtual Tape defines 12 slots and 1 drive. You can change these values at any time. The maximum number of slots is 1000 and the maximum number of drives is 4. The important thing that comes in mind is whether virtual tape supports the rotation the tapes? The answer is yes it can be used to support the virtual tape. Virtual Tape can be able to manage magazines in the Virtual Library. Virtual Tape does run as a service, it can be used to work with embedded operating Systems. The Virtual Tape images can capture the images from a disk to a library. The Tape Copy could be used to migrate the virtual tape image from the hard drive to a tape drive. The NovaNet interface is still required for the alteration of the destination devices. The main technology which supports virtual tape is the Yosemite Technologies product. The NovaNet technologies are working on adding support of other backup applications into Virtual Tape. The new publishes of the NovaStor Company could be brought through the Nova News on semi monthly basis.
