> Tape Drive Installation There are two types of installation issues. They are Internal Installation & External Installation. In Internal Installation, all internal tape backup drives are installed in the smaller drive which is attached to the system such as floppy drives. Drives that are installed in floppy drive can be thought of as a frame to be installed in a 5 1/4-inch drive. The installation of the drive using a 3 1/2-inch bay can remove the cage. Generally, tape drives are about 5 and 9 inches; they require a space of about 5 to 9 inches inside the system case. The tape drives can be mounting inside the system using the rails used for floppy drives or hard drives such as CD-ROM drives. Internal Installation can be done through the internal tape drives which require a power connector, usually the connector used for hard drives, require the smaller power connector which is common to the floppy drives. The power connector available inside system can be used for the power splitter from a computer store. A power splitter can be thought of the letter Y and it is a extension cord. The power connector is connected from the device. The bottom point of the power connector is provided with two power connectors. Internal tape drives require QIC-40 and QIC-80 drives which are connected to the system. You can connect the tape drive to the floppy disk data cable through a special cable which is linked to the floppy disk. The internal drives QIC-40s and QIC-80s generally require a adapter card. The adapter card should have the QIC-standard adapter card, a Computer Systems Interface adapter, a SCSI adapter card and Integrated Drive Electronics card. Before purchasing the adapter card, the things which has to be kept in the mind is to make sure that the drive kit has all the purchased things. An internal or external drive can be choose depending upon the cut and dried issue. Suppose you have a back up of a single computer and a small hard drive, an internal drive can be used for back up for the several computers with hard drives. You must be able to make out which one of the QIC's is portable. If there is any requirement for the backup then your computer should have to be configured with a large hard drive and you can back up your administer a large number of systems and want to minimize the amount of work you must do and the number of tapes you have to store for each computer, installing large-capacity QIC, DAT, or 8mm tape drives in each computer might be what you need to do. There is tape drive with large capacity such as QIC and DAT almost all the computers have an available drive bay, you might choose a portable DAT or 8mm tape system. In External Installation, an external tape drive from one computer to another computer is used to install an adapter card in each system on which the tape drive is installed. In External installation adapter cards is engineered for use with external tape drives, which can be accessible from the back panel of the system. Remember while purchasing an external tape backup drive requires an adapter, that includes the necessary adapter card or that you can purchase the card at the same time you purchase the drive. If you are planning to use the external tape drive to back your systems, then you can buy a card for each system to use the drive. Power can be supplied to external terminals by using a transformer that is ordinary 120v AC socket. The transformer connects to the external drive with a small connector. |
