Magneto Optical Drives
Home > Magneto Optical Drives MO

Magneto Optical drive is a kind of optical disk drive which combines the magnetic disk technologies with optical technologies like CD-ROMs etc. Magneto optical drive is accepted by many esteemed organizations as a best way to back up files, documents on a personal computer.

As the name itself states as Magneto Optical device, it utilizes both the magnetic and optical technologies in order to attain ultra-high data density. Magneto Optical drive holds the capacity of writing and rewriting data upon a magneto-optical disc. A typical Magneto Optical cartridge is slightly larger than a conventional 3.5-inch magnetic diskette, but the looks of the disc are quite similar. The older type of magnetic diskette can store 1.44 megabytes (MB) of data; an MO diskette can store many times that amount, ranging from 100 MB up to several gigabytes.

The chief Characteristics of Magneto-Optical Drives are;

  • The performance of the Magneto-optical devices is good when the data is circulated appropriately within its structural framework.
  • Each magneto-optical disk has two surfaces, each of which appears to HP-UX as an entire disk that can be used for a mountable file system or for raw access.
  • Magneto optical disk libraries include multiple optical disks and multiple optical drives.
    Magneto Optical technology carry virtually unlimited capacity and higher consistency at a low cost per megabyte. The speed of the magneto optical drives is at greater speed as it combines the magnetic and optical laser technologies. Thus it is a cost-effective, expandable and reliable storage solution for any organization.
