Home > 8mm Tape Drives

The 8mm Tape Drive is an internal tape drive which provides medium to high capacity backup and for a high data transfer rate. The 8mm tape drive has a good communication system which is based on the SCSI bus and can be either asynchronous or synchronous. The 8mm tape drive can only be used to read and is compatible with 2.3GB, 5.0GB, and 7.0GB. The 8mm tape drives is a boot device which can be used for booting the system.

The 8mm tape drive is primarily for saving and restoring system data files and can be used for archiving important records and can also be used for upgrading the operating system. The 8mm Tape Drive should match the American National Standards Institute standard. The drive uses a single-ended interface that meets SCSI-2 Standard. There are vast 8mm Tape Drive features which include the use of 8mm data cartridges.

The Compression capability of the 8mm Tape Drive is very effective. It could be doubled by the native capacity and data rate. The actual capacity of 8mm Tape Drive per cartridge varies depending on the application and the type of data cartridge. The Data compression of 8mm Tape Drive is usually controlled by the application software.

The 8mm Tape Drive has an LCD display that provides operating and error messages. The status lights of the 8mm Tape Drive are used to clean up the tape drive When the 8mm Tape Drive is in motion then the drive is ready to accept tape motion commands.

The 8mm tape drive consists of the following LCD which could be used to make out the status of the 8mm Tape Drive: The amber light is displayed when there is disturbance, the green light is displayed, whether it is ready, the green light is also used for Activity.

For best performance of the 8mm Tape Drive are as follows: 8mm Tape Drive can handle the drive carefully and it’s through its external metal. In order to avoid any accidents, keep your hands away from the printed circuit boards, components, and printed circuit cables. Work on a cushioned surface, and do not drop the tape drive onto the work surface.

The tape drive has an environment that is colder or warmer than its previous environment so keep the drive in its package and try to keep out of the reach of the current room temperature which could prevents potential data loss to the tape drive. Try to use high quality 8mm tape cartridges which is recommended by the manufacturer. Do not forget to remove the tape cartridge from the tape drive when it is not in use, and store the cartridge in the cartridge case.

Do not keep the doors of the tape open when not in use. This door covers and protects the magnetic tape material from dirt, dust, and damage. Do not touch, the tape, so that it can cause loss of data. It is a good habit to back up tape cartridge that is causing repeatedly error messages, and discard the old tape cartridge is there is error for a prolonged period.

Clean the tape path regularly according to the cleaning procedure described by the manufacturers. Do not forget to use only recommended cleaning cartridges. Other cleaning cartridges can even permanently damage the tape drive.
